Talofa Niutao
Many thanks to Taotao for joining the Niutao discussion group. It is really important that we encourage as many of our people (those who have accessed to internet) to join. There are several reasons, some of which are outlined below:
1. I believe we've now reached a critical junction in the development of Niutao in so far as development planning is concerned. There is a clear and visible good will and spirit of partnership on the part of the Falekaupule and Kaupule of Niutao wanting to work together with the Niutao communities on Funafuti - and by extension with those in NZ etc - to develop and enhance the standard of living of the Niutao people on the island. This clear manifestation of partnership in development of the island needs to be supported and strengthened by all means possible. This requires the sharing of information and ideas and
communicating them to the relevant authorities.
2. Niutao needs the support of all Niutaoans wherever they may be - more improtantly from those who have the knowledge and skills in all aspects of development - whether in economics, finance, community development, womens' development, training and development, education, justice, social security etc. As Niutaoans we have to make an input, not only in kind ( through our donations and subscriptions etc) but also in terms of our knowledge and skills. In the context of world development in general, and the onset of the digital and knowledge economy, it goes without saying that Niutao needs your 'brain' power apart from the other more traditional contributions!!!
3. It is important, I feel that with the dispersion (diaspora) of the Niutao people to all parts of the globe, we need a medium though which we can keep in touch and exchange and
share ideas and information.
It is on the basis of the above that I feel it is important that we encourage others to join.
This is an open forum and as such we have to be guarded with respect our comments and inputs - otherwise, all views and suggestions about the development of Niutao are welcome.
I take my hat off to Geoff for the initiative to create this group - and I may add the Luaseuta Foundation web site which I believe is a big plus for Niutao!!
We still need to discuss some of the project proposals Geoff has posted!!
Ke manuia...
